The ground entrance to Oasis is a massive gate. It’s bordered by mounted turrets that are ready and pointed out towards the oncoming traffic. Anti-air defenses line the top of the colony walls. Two large beam cannons flank both sides of the entrance.
Delphine has disappeared somewhere in the dense traffic.
Sebastian is next in line.
He moves the tadpole forward. The legion of armored guards posted at the gate all focus their attention on his vehicle. A large scanner begins scanning the vehicle. The guard standing next to the driver’s side door signals for Sebastian to lower his window. He is so scared that he completely forgot to lower it before driving up.
"Signature, please." The guard commands.
Sebastian extends his arm.
This is it.
The guard scans Sebastian’s tattoo with a bulky handheld device.
…
This is his last chance to tell the guards everything. The rebels are trapped.
These two have been responsible for the loss of innocent life.
Or so he thinks?
This should be an easy decision...
But Sebastian has had enough.
He just doesn’t care anymore.
Screw this job.
The pirates can have this truck.
He wasn't even supposed to be here today.
…
There is a loud chirp from a nearby terminal. A second guard walks up to Sebastian’s window.
"There's signal interference inside of your trailer. What’s inside?" The second guard asks.
"It’s a supply shipment for The Mare. The rads shielding on the fridge might be—" Sebastian answers.
"Right. It says he was due back here ten minutes ago." The first guard interjects.
Sebastian is astounded by the expected delivery timeline. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
"Um… I got here as fast as I could—" He stammers in frustration.
The second guard can see the irritation on Sebastian’s face.
"Hey, don't sweat it. There have been a lot of unreasonable demands made today. We’re supposed to manually scan every single vehicle that comes through here."
"…that’s crazy." Sebastian responds dryly, still lost in a whirlwind of thoughts.
"Tell me about it. The signature checks out. Let’s just let him in. This guy’s already having a bad day." The second guard says.
The uncanny accuracy of the comment leaves Sebastian momentarily dazed.
"Alright. Go on through." The first guard says as he steps away.
Sebastian collects himself and drives the tadpole forward. As soon as he gets far enough away from the gates, he unlocks the fridge’s hatch.
It suddenly dawns on him.
He has just smuggled a pair of pirates into Oasis.
There’s no going back now.
